Yuksel Sahin (UK), the visionary owner behind Sanat, is a second generation hairstylist from Antalya, Turkey, with top tier salon New York City credentials (Warren-Tricomi) and a commitment to the business of beauty.
According to UK, “In Turkey, hair is an art and that philosophy is reflected in my choice of a name for my salon as Sanat means ‘art’ in Turkish. Turkish women are such ‘beautistas’ that it isn’t unusual for them to get their hair styled twice a day (there are even salons perched on the sandy beaches for such pampering), so a hairdresser’s professional training is all encompassing. I’m an all-around beauty expert – scalp massage, cut, color, blowout and even nail care – men, women, adults and children.”
Sanat Hair Salon’s welcoming street-level access often features a “doggie in the window – specifically a Lhasa Apso from Tibet named Troy.” The new ultra-modern makeover includes exquisite chandeliers, light blue as the Aegean Sea walls with engaging artwork, comfy black leather padded guest chairs and oversized self-admiration mirrors at each hair station, sleek red reception chairs, and individual vases of flora and fauna throughout. Products are salon only, professional hair care products – some available only in Turkey, including one which can restore your hair’s childhood strength, shine and body (remember the hair of your youth before perms, coloring, straightening?) with a secret Turkish antioxidant formula that hydrates and rejuvenates.
Sanat Hair Salon’s expert stylists give their clients a fashion-forward image – as well as a fresh interpretation of the classics - without cutting corners. “There are cuts and styles that flatter everyone,” says UK. Prior to the shampoo stage, when hair is still dry, we consult with each client to determine their hair goals – and assess which hairstyle and coloring best suits their face shape, hair texture, and personality. Even Troy has provided inspiration as his fur is a gorgeous golden blonde and many of my female clients have asked me to duplicate his coloring on their locks!”
In addition to cuts and coloring, Sanat has always offered a Brazilian Keratin formaldehyde-FREE treatment – specially formulated by hair color - long before the dangerous of the harsh chemicals became front page news. Using Turkish products, UK and his multi-tasked hair team infuse keratin, a plant-derived protein, deep into the hair cuticle to rid up to 95% of the frizz and curl. End result: Luxurious and silky to the must-touch hair. Touchups are recommended after three months for the first-time user; five months after the second-time around.
